ProfileSuzette Hammond follows Tea as a way of life, not just a way of work. This devotion is readily apparent, as she has become known as one of the most engaged teachers in the global tea industry. Influenced by nearly 15 years of professional experience, Suzette is the founder of Being Tea: an independent, education-focused consultancy for tea project development, customized workshops, teacher training and tea therapy research. She travels extensively in the US and internationally to work onsite with client projects, ranging from fieldwork and origin research, to analytical tasting and mechanical engineering. Her prior tea experience includes training director roles at large and medium sized corporations, as well as industry trade organizations. She teaches with and serves on the board for World Tea Academy, speaks regularly for World Tea Expo and other trade shows and festivals, judges for the Global Tea Championship, and works with Tea Journey Magazine. Suzette’s personal background is also multi-disciplinary and diverse, influencing her advocacy of tea for mental health. She is a trained journalist, a practitioner of Alexander Technique, MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction), restorative yoga and somatic studies, a formal student of several tea ceremony traditions, and utilizes trauma- informed response in working with tea meditation as a form of mind-body therapy. Suzette resides in Chicago.
