All entries into the North American Tea Championship receive a World Tea Rating™.
Ratings are determined by blind organoleptic analysis of each submissions' characteristics and then used to calculate an overall numerical value on a 100-point scale. Winners are determined by rank.
The following guidelines can be used to interpret ratings:

Outstanding: a distinctive tea with brilliant style |
| 80 - 89 |

Very Good: a tea with superior characteristics |
| 70 - 79 |

|
Above Average: a tea with particularly desirable qualities |
| 60 - 69 |
|
|
Mediocre: a good tea, typical for its category |
| 50 - 59 |
|
|
Poor: not recommended |
