Tips & Tricks

The largest demographic of buyers at Expo have been in business more than ten years. Yet an exhibitor may say all they meet are New Business owners.  Why?

Because new business owners stop by every single booth.  They then seem to be the most populous. Seasoned buyers visit existing vendors and interesting prospects (which are pre-determined by buyers before the show even opens).

World Tea Expo provides you the opportunity to meet every buyer at the Expo.  It's your job to actually meet the ones you want. Know the demographics.

How to meet your target audience:

  1. Tell them you're exhibiting.
Sounds easy enough. Strangely, not everyone does it. Some vendors simply hope buyers will be so dazzled by their booth that they'll walk in, talk to a fabulous sales person and give them lots of money.
    • Use the pre-show marketing tools already offered as part of your exhibit space.
      • Complete your virtual booth online so World Tea buyers can learn more about your company and request appointments with you pre show.
      • Submit products into the New Product Showcase - new products are highly marketed pre-show by World Tea to buyers on your behalf.
    • Use your own database.
      • Email or mail your own list and tell them:
        • Your Booth Number
        • Which staff members will be there
        • About events occurring in your booth
        • Your Show Specials
        • The dates and times of your in-booth tastings (if selling consumables, obviously)
    • Have World Tea send out a promotional piece about you to its list.*
    • Use your Buyer's Guide Listing on World Tea News.
    • Use your own web site.
    • Use your own PR firm and use World Tea's.
      • Send all new press releases to World Tea for further distribution, media inquiries, and possible inclusion in stories relating to Expo.

  2. Get them in your booth.
    • Have a mini-event in your booth.
      • If you sell anything consumable, have a tasting!
      • Tastings always work but any event will attract buyers.  At the 2011 Expo, one booth offered green tea facials. What does your company offer that differentiates it from the crowd? Create an event around that.
      • Seasoned buyers are attracted to NEW, EXCITING, POPULAR vendors. If you have a booth full of people, even the most unattainable buyer will be attracted to you.
    • Market your company throughout the show to direct buyers to your booth.
      • Feature your products in a dedicated glass display case at the front of the hall so buyers see your products before they see any booth.*
      • Serve your tea to buyers attending morning educational sessions before the show floor opens each day.*
      • Create an ad to be displayed on the projector screen in all educational sessions that includes your booth number.*
      • Insert your ad in the Expo's official Show Directory.*
      • Hang your logo on the aisle sign above your booth. *

  3. Record contact information and follow-up with all leads.
Another no-brainer that only the successful actually do.
      • Rent lead retrieval from the registration vendor.* Do not rely on business cards or even getting cards from big, corporate buyers. Scan every badge that walks into your booth. The same vendors that say they meet only new business owners have no idea that A&P visited them.
      • Skipping this step is like buying a Porsche but opting-out of upgrading its horsepower. What's the point?

Exhibitors who integrate ‘other’ marketing tools into their exhibition participation are far more successful in attracting target visitors, converting them to leads and generating sales than those who do not. Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR)
