SKILL BUILDING WORKSHOP - Cupping

  Develop your professional cupping skills with this hands-on workshop. Through a combination of lecture and group practice, attendees will learn the fundamentals and language of professional tea cupping. White, green, oolong, and black teas from major producing regions will be tasted. This seminar is ideal for beginners and those with some previous cupping experience.  
       
  By the end of this session you will be able to:  
   
  1. Use a standard tea cupping set and prepare a comparative tasting.
  2. Understand the physiology of sensory evaluation.
  3. Use tea terminology to describe the appearance, aroma, and flavor of tea leaves and liquor.
  4. Identify quality characteristics of teas made with common production methods and from major producing regions.
  5. Choose the appropriate tasting techniques for use in purchasing, quality control, and blend development and arrange tastings to minimize personal bias.

  Jessica Robinson heads sales and marketing for Seattle-based Choice Organic Teas. Through her ten years of specialty tea industry experience, she has developed a passion for making the techniques and language of tea tasting accessible to consumers and trade members alike. She encourages people to move beyond their personal preferences and to evaluate teas objectively. A contributor to the 6th edition of the “Specialty Tea is ‘Hot’ Report” and to the Specialty Tea Institute’s certification program, Jessica has tasted and sourced thousands of seasonal offerings, designed QC programs, and authored articles on the history, culture, and consumption of tea. Her background includes time with Upton Tea Imports and Barnes & Watson Fine Teas. When not thinking about tea, Jessica enjoys applying her tasting skills to Pacific Northwest wines and microbrews.
